We’re starting a new year, and Capital City Murders is making some changes. We’re released eight of the fifty books we have planned so far, and things have gone really well. But we have realized we need to reach more readers and more fans.
So we’ve started a Patreon Page. Here are some answers to some common questions:
What is Patreon?
Patreon is a modern platform like the old-school artist patrons. It allows you to support your favorite musicians, artists, authors, and others with regular contributions that help fund their work in the long term.
It’s great for these creatives because it helps them overcome one of the challenges of creating for a living: finding a stable income. But it is about more than just money. The psychological boost that having supporters behind you is one of the keys to creativity and avoiding things like writer’s block and imposter syndrome.
Patrons are basically saying to authors and artists: I like what you are doing, and I want you to keep doing it. Their monetary support helps creatives do just that.
Why Support Artists on Patreon?
We as people get a great deal of enjoyment from music and the arts. We escape into books, stories, and films, and music matches and even affects our mood. However, we live in an age when we can get a lot of those things “for free” or as part of a subscription or other service.
While this is great for those of us who consume content, it makes it harder for those creatives we love to make a living. This has always been a challenge, and many times fans and friends never know the kind of support an author or artist needs. Being a part of Patreon lets you make that difference, while at the same time you get an inside look at what creatives are doing.
What do I get in Return for my Support?
If you are familiar with things like Kickstarter, usually they are how you support one time needs of an artist, creator, or even a startup company. In exchange, usually, you get a first look at a product, service, work of art, or book, and get different rewards depending on your level of support.
In a way, Patreon is an ongoing Kickstarter or GoFundMe, whereas the others are one-time only. You will get certain rewards depending on your level of support on an ongoing basis.
In our case, rewards include print books, eBooks, early notice of titles, early copies of each type of book, and special gifts and swag related to Capital City Murders and our latest books.
You can be assured you will never miss a book, a print compilation, an event, a special contest, and more. You’ll be a vital part of our support system, and we want to show our appreciation for that.
What if I want some different benefits?
Once you look over the benefits we offer our patrons, you may have ideas that you want something else we don’t offer or a different set of benefits.
Of course, we can’t adopt every suggestion, but we are also open to ideas. You can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with your ideas, and we will be happy to look them over. Of course, you can also follow us and message us on social media in places like Facebook and Twitter. We actually love hearing from you.
Do you want to become one of our Patreon supporters? It’s pretty easy. Just follow this link to sign up. If you have questions, want to see different benefits, or wonder more about how it all works, feel free to reach out and contact us at any time. We’d be happy to hear from you.
